Description of Significance THE THREATT FILLING STATION, NEAR LUTHER, IS AN EXAMPLE OF A HOUSE TYPE FILLING STATION LOCATED ON WHAT WOULD BECOME ROUTE 66. THE STATION WAS OWNED AND OPERATED BY THE THREATT FAMILY, AN AFRICAN AMERICAN FAMILY WHO FIRST CAME TO THE AREA DURING THE LAND RUN OF 1889. THE 1940 ERA GAS PUMPS REMAIN IN PLACE TODAY AND THE STATION IS A REMINDER OF THE IMPORTANCE OF SUCH FACILITIES TO TRAVELERS ON ROUTE 66 AND TO EARLY ENTREPRENEURSHIP BY AFRICAN AMERICANS DURING THE PERIOD OF SEGREGATION. LISTED IN NATIONAL REGISTER 2/23/1995.
